Cattery Time Again

Once again we've been unceremoniously dumped into our cat baskets and driven off to the cattery, while Geoff & Linda swan off somewhere supposedly nice. This time they went to somewhere called Key Largo in the Florida Keys. Geoff's always moaning about losing his keys - I just wish he'd lost them on this occasion.

He showed me this photo, saying it was the view from their balcony. Doesn't do much for me, I'm afraid. All that horrible water with things called manatees floating around in it, and those funny looking trees look a bit tricky to climb up to catch the birdies. Nah, give me my back garden every time.

Bessie nearly eaten by a fox

The evening they returned from their holiday, that smelly female fox decided she wanted Bessie the bun as a take-away for her supper. She had even picked Bess up in her mouth when Geoff stated shouting some very unusual words. These must have been magic words, as the fox dropped Bessie and legged it quick. I must try to remember these words - I remember that the second word was 'off', but not sure about the first.

Anyway, Bessie was taken to the emergency vet, and then to see Uncle Steve the vet at Acorn. She had neck wounds which looked as though they hurt, but she seems to be back to normal now. Linda says they need to review bunny security and improve things in the back garden. I dread to think what's coming.

What's a jubilee?

Linda and Geoff have had a couple of extra days off work to celebrate something called the Jubilee. It seems I learn something new every day. I always thought that the people they watch on the big moving-picture-box in my front room couldn't see or hear Linda and Geoff as they sat there - but I'm quite wrong. They were both singing songs called 'Land of Hope and Glory' and 'God Save The Queen' to the people on the screen, who seemed to enjoy Geoff & Linda's singing - especially the lady in the big red hat.

A few days later and I'm convinced. They were shouting 'come on England' at some men running around a field, and although the men heard and seemed to try harder, they didn't quite do what Geoff & Linda wanted.

I blush with embarrassment when I think of those parts of my body I've licked in front of that teevee, - and I never knew that someone might be enjoying a peep show at my expense!

That's no tash, it's Katy!

Geoff keeps pointing to strange birds in the sky called Virgin Atlantic and telling me that they pay for my catfood. I suppose I must be grateful. Anyway I dread to think what goes on at this place. To celebrate at the Virgin Atlantic 18th birthday party, Linda put on a load of clothes from sometime called the 80's, - and Geoff - well.

He gave Katy a good brushing (which she quite enjoyed), then he rolled up the fur, put it under his nose, wore sunglasses and a yellow helmet and left my house singing 'its fun to stay at the YMCA'. Don't believe me? Here's the picture! If he ever needs a ginger moustache he can forget it.

Goodbye Billy, Hello Bessie

My catflap loving chum Billy the rabbit has sadly passed on to the happy grazing ground. I represented us cats at his funeral at the bottom of my garden. As the other rabbit Biggles was lonely and upset, Geoff & Linda have bought him a friend. She's a snack-size thing called Bessie.

I've not yet had an opportunity to explain to her about my importance around here - but naturally I will. According to Linda, she's a lionhead - so perhaps we are related - but I can't see it myself.

Oooh Nasty.

Sorrel has recovered well after having her left eye removed - the only difference I have noticed is that she doesn't blink anymore, she just winks instead.

Another human kitten has appeared!

Linda tells me that congratulations are in order, as Warren and Tamara Beatteay have given birth to William on the other side of the pond. Warren's Aunt - Lynn -stayed with us quite recently (nice cosy lap!). She said she came from the other side of the pond too.

Now I've checked and rechecked, but there's nothing on the other side of the pond apart from a big bush and a couple of plants I dig up regularly. These humans!

Who do these rabbits think they are?

As the weather is a bit warmer I've been spending some of my time snoozing on the straw in the rabbit's enclosure. Their attitude amazes me - they think they own the place, so I have to remind them occasionally about who's in charge of everything around here.

I know I take the wotsit out of Sorrel, but she's a bit poorly right now. Her left eye had gone a bit funny, and after a few visits to the vet, she came back home without it - they had to remove it. Poor thing - she looks like she's gone a few rounds with that dog in the garden over the back. She should be alright after a few good naps.

As she can't go outside for a bit, she's living in the bedroom and being spoilt with some rather nice food. I really must go to pay her a visit to see what she's got to eat.

Fat-tongue Tanz

Not a lot this month. Tansy has been to the vet to have her teeth cleaned, and to have a couple of lumps removed from her tongue. Geoff and Linda aren't too worried, but the vet told them that they'd not seen anything like it before. Hopefully this might mean that Tanz will stop throwing up her dinner quite so often, - usually on the piece of carpet I was about to snooze on.

Borg and Chips

What is he wittering on about now? Geoff has taken all us cats to the vet to have an identity microchip inserted in the scruff of our necks, which was bad enough, but he keeps saying things like "... you will be assimilated, resistance is futile..." in a strange voice and has even started referring to me as 'one of seven'. Huh. Linda explained that its something to do with Startrek, but I wish he'd give the Guinness a rest.

No Holly in the garden

Holly still doesn't want to go out into the garden just yet. Geoff and Linda reckon that one of us has been sneaking into Holly's litter tray for a good late-night poo when no-one is looking. My lips are sealed, but its still rather nippy out there in the garden at night, eh Sorrel?

January 2002

I feel very, very sad.

Geoff told me that his Mum, Blanche, has passed away and won't come around anymore. She looked after me once when I was a little kitty when Geoff and Linda went on holiday, and she often came around here with a nice soft lap that all us cats found very comfortable. We'll all miss her!

So, we have two additions to our kitty community. Blanche's cats Pippa and Holly have now come to live with us. Being the only male around here, I'm keeping well out of the way. I'm letting these girlypusses sort themselves out first before I remind everybody about who the boss is, and whose house this really is. Still they seem to be settling in fairly well, but Tansy tells me that Holly spends a lot of her time hiding behind the sofa.

I just hope Linda is buying more tins of cat food these days.
